Mr. J.C. Ligon

The Journey Of Deacon JC Ligon: “Well Done, Thou Good and Faithful Servant” Matthew 25:21 JC Ligon, affectionately known as “Jimmy,” was born on June 16, 1932 in Brownsville, Tennessee to Lucy Taylor and James Wesley Ligon, Jr. He was one of five children. He received his formal education in The Brownsville Public Schools system. JC accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. JC was united in holy matrimony in 1952 with Flossie Taylor. The Lord blessed them with two children, Ruby and Jerry. He was a devoted husband and father. His children were the apple of his eye. In 1953, the Ligon family moved to Detroit, Michigan. JC gained employment at Ford Motor Company, where he made many longtime friends. He retired in 1988 after 35 years of service. In Detroit, he sang with many gospel groups over the years and visited many churches before uniting with the Third New Hope Baptist Church in 1981 under the leadership of Pastor E. L. Branch. He served the Lord faithfully “unto” death. JC loved the Lord with his whole heart, his pastor and the church. JC served as an Ordained Deacon, and an active member of The Mission, Golden Circle, Men’s Ministry, Youth Ministry and he sang with The Sanctuary Choir and Men of Hope. He served as ministry leader of Transportation and diligently worked with building and grounds. There was not anything he would not do for Third New Hope Church. He had the keys to every door and he served with joy and delight. JC did his best to help everyone he could, wherever the need, often putting their needs before his own. JC was always willing to lend a hand or offer words of encouragement. JC had a very special relationship to the children of Third New Hope. He was like a “grandfather” to them all and a father to some of the adults. He enjoyed cooking his own food, eating popcorn, reading his Bible, singing, watching professional wrestling, a good western movie, computer Solitaire and playing cards. “He had a mean Bid Whist hand!” JC was humorous, kind, gentle, patient, yet firm, a man of his word. He was dedicated, gifted in serving and “dressed” for the occasion. Everyone loved Deacon JC Ligon. He was truly our guardian angel. He will be missed by all. The Lord called JC home to rest on Sunday afternoon, January 5, 2014 at 12:08 p.m. peacefully. His legacy of love will live on in our hearts.
