Mrs. Helen Anneice Acevedo

In Loving Memory Of Helen Anneice Acevedo was born to the union of Marvin and Annie Bell Wilson in Meridian, Mississippi on July 29, 1933. She was raised the ﬁrst ten years of her life with her mother and father, and from age 11-17 with her grandparents, whom she affectionately called Mo Annie and Paw Fred. With them she attended Catholic School. She had a very strict upbringing. Her Granddad was a teacher and her Grandmother was a mid-wife nurse. She said she had lots of idle time and read the Bible through three times. Her favorite accounts in the Bible were Meshach, Shedrach, and Abednego and the 23rd Psalms. I remember seeing her read the Bible and she would read some to me. When she was 17, she eloped in Detroit with her ﬁrst husband. She married three times but found her happiness with her third husband, whom she was married to for 35 years until his death in 2005. In later years she attended cosmetology school and studied for her G.E.D. Later she decided to make a career change and worked for Taco Bell for 22 years where she retired. She was known and respected as a hard worker and loved during her time there. Let’s celebrate her life. It was a life of much joy and happiness. Our mom was a multi-talented person. She had various skills, interests, and accomplishments. She played piano, had a beautiful singing voice, and loved music and dancing. She could draw, needle point, crochet, and knit. She loved animals. When we were growing up she kept canary birds, turtles, and gold ﬁsh. When she remarried, she raised dogs, hens, and ﬁsh in a large ﬁsh tank. She had a love of eating which her and my sister Darlene shared. She had deep insight into people. She could pick up on things about people that others didn’t readily see. I Debra, recall her ﬁguring out my friends, and as time went by, l realized she was right about them. She was humble about her beauty. My male friends would see her and say she looked good. She took it in stride, it never went to her head. Also she loved to cook for her family and others in need, as well as entertain everyone with her food, singing, and dancing. She never viewed holidays as such, but rather saw it as a time to get together with her family. She belonged to the TLC Club and the West Siders. She loved to host parties and play music, dance and furnish all with meals and drinks. When we were children and throughout our adulthood, she cooked nutritious meals. Fast food was not a part of our life - only on rare occasions. She was a hard working mother and wife at home. When she remarried she shared with me the things to make a successful marriage. She said communication, talking about everything, spending time together, working out your problems and supporting one another. She enjoyed helping others. She was well known for doing so. When she visited her friend In her building and she saw someone in need, she helped. There was a disabled man who lived upstairs and she would cook for him everyday. Also, the residents all loved her. I recall a teenage friend of mine whom she allowed to stay with us awhile. She fed her and bought her new clothes. She told me she took care of her Grandmother Mo Annie while she was pregnant until her death. She also made sure our dad helped us ﬁnancially when we were in need. She shared values and listened to her grandchildren and they speak of her with deep fondness and gratitude. She didn’t have to go through a lot of things that many women went through. She was spoiled and was deeply loved by her husband, and her boyfriend, who gave her anything she wanted until his death recently. Our father loved her until the day he died and gave her anything she wanted. She loved to laugh, and tell jokes and funny stories and her children loved hearing them. She did so up until her passing. She was a true people person. The legacy she left her children was that of values because she was raised with them. She wanted all of us to love God and serve him in whatever faith we chose. She wanted us to be good and decent people. She strongly believed in marriage and having children with married parents. She rejoiced when we married. She felt marriage brought decency and honorableness to her children. She was a very private person. She never interfered in our marriage or relationships unless it was absolutely called for. Like all humans, she was imperfect and like all, made mistakes in life. She recovered however and tried hard to make up for them and she succeeded. That is what she would want us to do. We all look forward to seeing her in the resurrection. Jesus said at John 11: 25 “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life.” Revelation 21:4,5 says: “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death and mourning nor out cry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. And the one seated on the throne said: Look I am making all things new. Also he says write for these things are faithful and true.” Our mother will be sorely missed. Her parents preceded her in death as well as three sisters, Marion Louise Meredith, Sarah Yvonne Pasqual, and Theresa Kay Porter. She leaves to mourn with great sadness her dear sisters and brothers Annie Ruth Sears (Walter), Reverend Frederick Charles Wilson, (Ophelia), Edna Marvine Johnson, Queen Esther Gray, Rose Marie O’Neil, Caroline Agee, Gary Wilson, and Trenia Wilson. Also she leaves with a deeper sadness her children who loved her deeply, Debra Michele Hagar (LaNardo), Darlene I. Banks (Erik), Curtis Ray Windom, Phyllis Williams (Michael), Henry Allen Windom (deceased), Keith Tyrone Windom, Kenneth Deon Windom (deceased), and Lawrence McDonald (deceased) and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Three of her grandchildren for whom she was especially close were Denisa Marie Evans, LaJuana Sheree Evans, and Carla Crigler. She was also loved by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and all who remember her fondly.
