Mrs. Harriett Giles

The Life Of Harriett Giles: Harriett Giles was born on January 18, 1958 to the union of the late Sealoyd and Alice Jones. She was the seventh child. Harriett grew up in the Detroit Public Schools graduating from Osborn High School in 1975. She also graduated from Wayne State University with a BA in 1980. For a short while she taught English at Cambridge Business School located in downtown Detroit. She was later offered a job at Detroit College of Business which she refused because she decided to accept a Temp Assistant at the Detroit Edison Company which is now DTE Energy. A permanent position was offered to Harriett in January of 1982 and she was employed there for 35 years until she retired. Harriett grew up at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. B.H. Harris and after his death, the Rev. Odell Jones. While attending Pleasant Grove, she served on the Jr. Usher Board and sang in the Celestial Choir. In 1989, she left Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and joined Unity Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Valmon D. Stotts. That was her place of worship for 18 years. At Unity Baptist she was a faithful member of the Senior Choir and the Monday Night Bible Class. In 2010, Harriett joined Second Ebenezer Church under the leadership of Bishop Edgar Vann. Her favorite service was the 8:00 A.M. Worship Service... In 2007, Harriett prayed for the Lord to send her a husband with whom she could spend the rest of her life. But only one line changed in her prayer and that was, she asked the Lord to send her who He wanted her to have, that way she knew it would be right. And it was later that year God had bless her with the love of her life, Mr. Derwin (Babe) William Giles. They met through a longtime friend of hers and brother-in-law. Harriett and Derwin were married on September 2, 2008 at the Stained Glass Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Harriett had three stepsons named Kyle William Giles, Davon Jordan Morrow and Donntae Alan Dumas. Harriett was a traveler before she met Derwin and after marriage he joined in and started traveling too. Some of the places they went to were: Las Vegas, the Bahamas, Jamaica, St. Thomas, Miami, San Francisco, New York, etc... Harriett had dressed and maintained her body well, her second love was selling beauty products and she would sell good quality used clothes from her personal closet, also furniture and jewelry. When she got tired of it, she sold it, if she didn't sell all of it, she donated it to the Good Will and Salvation Army or if she heard someone was struggling for clothes to wear, she would simply give it away to that person. If she liked it, she could sell it. She sold Mary Kay for about ten years and sold, sold beauty products for about six months and sold Jafra products. Harriett was a people person. She loved being around God's people, positive people, loving people, people who would make her laugh with that unique and gorgeous smile that would brighten up her and their day. Her gift from God was the ability to see beyond the surface in people (discernment). God shaped her by surrounding her with a very wise mother and later she surrounded herself with other older women that she met on her journey through this life and gained all the knowledge and advice that she could from them and later shared it with others. With her perfect smile she was an easy person to get along with, people felt it was easy to come up to her and discuss any problems they had. With that unique hardy laughter everyone could surely recognize and she often loved to give you a nickname that suited you. We are going to miss her. Harriett's spirit departed the earth on March 8, 2017 and is no longer with us, she was a follower of her Lord Jesus Christ, she no longer dwells in a tent here on earth but her spirit now dwells in the bosom of our heavenly Father, the Almighty God.
