Mrs. Gwendolyn Reed

Hello, my name is Gwendolyn Reed, but most people call me Gwen. I was born on June 12, 1948, in Detroit, MI to my loving parents Beatrice and the late Sylvester Crowell. I attended the Detroit Public Schools System and Wayne County Community College studying Psychology. I worked for General Motors and was as a Manager in the retail industry for many years. While hanging with my aunt, I met the love of my life, Randolph Reed. We were married on August 27, 1966 and from this union our three beautiful children were born: Randolph (Korv), Dorian (Doe) and Syretta (Retta) Reed. The love of my life, Randy, preceded me in death in 2003. I loved reading my romance novels, collecting comic books, listening to good music and was big into fashion. And let me tell you, I could dress! But what gave me the most satisfaction was loving on my family, friends and those in need. My home was the gathering place and the door was always open. I treated you like family by feeding and talking with you about life. I’ve talked with many of you sitting here today. You’ve confided some of your deepest secrets with me, I listened and didn’t judge. I had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. My sister and I talked on the phone for hours laughing about what happened that day or watching movies. I loved listening to my favorite group, the Temptations and watching football with my grandkids. During my early years of marriage, I found pleasure in reading the Bible. I accepted Christ and was Baptized in 1984. Later in life, I rededicated myself to Christ where I received the gift of the Holy Ghost. I was called home on December 26, 2024. Preceding me in death was my father Sylvester Crowell, my husband Randolph Reed; my son Dorian D. Reed; brother Norman E. Crowell and sister Pearl Greenhill. I leave shared memories with my children: Randy Reed and Syretta Reed; my mother: Beatrice Crowell; siblings: Mary Frances, Janet (Nuggie), Sylvester Jr. (Rudder), Yolanda, Janelle’; two great aunts: Mildred Thompson and Mildred Shaw; brother-in-law Anthony Thompson; ten grandchildren: Tiffany, Stephanie, Daniel, Breonna, Randolph, Dorian, Jeremiah, Elijah, Madison and Mason; daughters-in-love; great niece and bonus daughter Mica Bivings, great-great niece and bonus granddaughter Kamryn Hasaun; my best friend Marie Nixon and a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Family and friends, I know your hearts may be heavy, but I’m fine. I love y’all. Gwen (Winnie)
