Mrs Gloria Violet Gatewood

In Loving Memory Of: I, Gloria Violet Evans was born on April 24, 1954 to the union of Robert and Maxine Evans. Both parents preceded me in death. To this union eight children were conceived, Cynthia and LueShelia preceded me in death; Ella, Egarnoise, Damon, Martina and Emma. We were all blessed with a loving home. I, Gloria (aka Hunjay) accepted Christ in June 1966 and united with the New Mount Vernon Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Dr. John L. Webb. It was under Pastor Webb’s leadership that I was taught, learned and discerned the true gospel of Jesus Christ. In January 2000, I became a member of Second New Hope, under the leadership of Pastor Gabriel Lewis. My knowledge and thirst became more of a zeal and love for the word of God because of Pastor Lewis’ dynamic unique teaching, preaching and testimonies. I moved to Atlanta and became a member of Word of Faith through the direction of God. Upon my return to Michigan in 2012, I reunited with Second New Hope under the leadership of Pastor Eric Burr. On September 21, 1974, I united in matrimony with John L. Gatewood who had a great influence on my life and was a blessing to me. John taught me living values of what to do and not to do; along with how to do (from repairing a vehicle to building a bathroom) and who to trust and not to trust. We remained friends until my death. I was blessed with three wonderful sons Bertrand Laurent Evans (Shana); Bertrand preceded me in death, James Christopher Gatewood (Stephanie) and Nichulas Jamonn Gatewood. God allowed me to love and nurture them and I cherished the relationship we established once they became men. I always thought to be exceptionally blessed to have the sons God gave me. When anyone asked how the boys were… my reply would always be they’re blessed they are not perfect but they are blessed. I will love them through eternity. I always hoped to birth a daughter, but God in his infinite wisdom gave me two, Shanna and Stephanie. My daughters were always there for me during health and sickness. I love them with all my heart. Thank you Lord for my two daughters. My mother Maxine Evans was my hero. Mama endured so many trials and exceeded so much strength and through it all she raised us to be very loving and respectful siblings to one another. I always told my family how blessed we were to have the love we had for one another. It was a rarity that any of us held a grudge toward each other. I adored my nieces and nephews. My hero Aunt Vera is a fountain of wisdom and love. I was blessed to have many associates and friends, but acknowledge Sharon Wells as my “Best girlfriend in the world” not only in my heart but in Christ. We loved and respected each other for who we were, nothing more nothing less. “Unconditional love.” We laughed and cried and shared secrets together for 30 plus years. God blessed me to have grandchildren who lit up my heart. My prayer and belief is they will be strong men and women of God. Ayanna, Brandi, Jalen, Nichulas J., Jaida, Nichulas Jr. and great-grand Alani. They brought me life and taught me to enjoy the simple things in life. They all are gifted and blessed. During my journey on this earth, I was blessed to know and be among people who always seemed to love me and seem to have a genuine concern. They said I exuded a spirit of love for God and always had a testimony to God’s goodness. I was known for my gift to gab about God and His goodness. March 9, 2017 Today on the radio 102.7 I heard many stories regarding people living and dying with cancer. Naturally I got very emotional. What I didn’t realize until later is that these were parents of the children who had the disease. I heard about children dying at two years of age and younger. Well, my heart was completely hurt. Then the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, I have given you 62 years of life and you’re life has been blessed being a child of God, traveling, having big fun and birthing three awesome sons whom gave you beautiful, loving grandchildren and a wonderful supportive family. Thank you Lord, I won’t complain! Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. ~John 14: 1-3 (KJV) Beloved, Believe that God has prepared a place for us, and if you accept Christ, repent, believe and be baptized He will come back for us. Believe in His son Jesus who died for us on the cross He was buried and on the third day He rose again for us, our salvation. We must walk in obedience to God. We must turn from our sinful, disobedient ways. Fellowship with the Saints to praise and worship God. Thank God for everything. Then we will all see each other again and praise, worship and adore God. It’s time to make a change. Jesus is the way and the truth and the life, no man cometh to God except through Jesus.
