Mrs. Gloria Dumas

In Loving Memory Of Gloria Dumas was born May 1, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan to Lee Lowman and Elizabeth Lowman. Gloria grew up on Bryden Street in Detroit among the legendary ABC Streets (American, Bryden, Central) where the Lowman Family was respected and honored. Gloria attended Northwestern High School and graduated with honors. Gloria was a long-term member of Unity Baptist Church. After graduating from high school, Glo worked many different jobs before joining the City of Detroit as a Data Entry Clerk. Glo would spend the next 25 years rising through ranks. Glo was proud of and mentioned often that she made every place she worked better and every boss would rehire her in a Detroit minute. Glo eventually became the Supervisor of the Income Tax Processing Department and retired in 1992. This was not the end of Glo’s work career. After some prodding and convincing by her talented, amazing, outstanding, handsome, and accomplished son LaFell, Glo joined him at Plante Moran in their Tax Processing Department. Glo spent the next 19 years becoming a pivotal member of the department and the Supervisor’s right-hand person. Glo was married to Terry in Detroit on December 18, 1978, for 47 years and spent their retirement enjoying each other’s company. Glo was talented at many things. Her crocheting and sewing were legendary. She made most of her clothes and everybody, at some point, got a blanket or socks. Glo and Terry spent their retirement watching court shows, doing puzzles, and playing on their computers. But none of this, compared to her love for her family. As all her nieces and nephews were growing up, Glo made it a point to be their second mother. From things as simple as getting us penny candy to summer vacations to Cedar Pointe, Glo was always there for the family. She disciplined us and, in no uncertain terms, unapologetically cussed out anyone that went against the family. As she entered retirement, she insisted and demanded to be included in every Peoples Family Vacation. Besides all that, Glo was just fun to have around. her laughing, joking, dancing, singing, and kindness was what made her special to family and everyone she met. Glo peacefully passed away on July 3, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband Terry Dumas, father Lee Lowman, and Mother Elizabeth Lowman. Glo is survived by her son LaFell Peoples, her sisters Jeanette and Evelyn, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
