Sharing The Life Of Geraldine Gray: Geraldine Gray began life’s journey on November 6, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan. Her birth was celebrated by her loving parents, the late Chester and Lila Gray. She was the second of seven blessings to their union, three of whom, Booker, Arthur and Larry, preceded her in death. Surprisingly, as a young child, Geraldine, (Deannie, as her family lovingly referred to her) was actually quite shy. But, as she matured, her vibrant personality quickly developed the ability to light up a room. Geraldine, also affectionately known as Gerri by her many friends, was educated in the Detroit Public School System. But, it was she that educated us all on life’s lessons. Geraldine was employed by General Motors. She retired May 2003, after dedicating over 25 years of service. Geraldine’s proudest accomplishments were her three children and three grandchildren. She especially enjoyed time spent with them, as her most renowned role was that she played to her family. Geraldine accepted Christ at an early age of life at Canton Missionary Baptist Church and shared a close, personal relationship with God in her heart. This relationship was exemplified daily through her boundless love and limitless sacrifice for her family and friends, and the innumerable acts of selfless giving to which many of us have been recipients. Geraldine had an extraordinary talent for cooking. She took great pleasure in baking for her family and friends. Among her many gifts to this world were the blessing of her cakes and pies. And while her cakes and pies nourished many physically, her straight-forward, no-nonsense perspective and insight nourished us all emotionally. Geraldine was a woman of humor and wit. She enjoyed a good time. She always wore a smile as the finishing accent on her impeccably stylish attire. Her fun-loving, down-to-earth personality and sense of humor were contagious. She was a woman of integrity and great strength, strength upon which many depended and tapped into for motivation and inspiration. She was a woman of humility and woman of love. Her love served as an example to us all. She was so many things to so many people, a unique soul with a giving spirit, but most importantly, a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, always thinking of others first. "To know her was to love her." Geraldine met many challenges in her lifetime. She answered all with a fierce fight. However, her last battle was God’s will. To our loss, Geraldine finished her earthly labors of love. On Monday, November 17, 2014 she received a new assignment and answered her call to glory. In his infinite wisdom, God transformed our beloved Geraldine from earthly flesh to her heavenly home.
