Mrs. Florence Augusta Dickson

In Loving Memory Of; "HER BIRTH" Florence Augusta Dickson affectionately known as "Big Sister" was born April 19, 1936, in Beulah, Mississippi to the late Lank and Florence Harris. She was the fourth born of twelve children and the oldest girl and respectfully became everyone's "Big Sister". Ten of her siblings preceded her in death. "HER BEGINNINGS" Florence moved to Lambert, Mississippi at an early age where she attended school and met and married the late Jesse James Lee, Sr. to this union three children were born: Jesse James Lee Jr., (who preceded her in death) Roosevelt Lee and Ethel Mae Lee. In 1954, Florence relocated to Michigan and started a new chapter in life and shortly after her family joined her. She worked as head chef at Willow Run Airport and continued to be head chef at various restaurant locations throughout the duration of her career...not to mention the head chef at "Home". In 1966, Florence met the love of her life Deacon Garris Hoyt Dickson Sr., they were married and to this union three children were born: Garris Dickson Jr., Cassandra Dickson and Dave Dickson (who preceded her in death). Her husband Garris, had a son from a previous relationship named James "Hoyt Jr" Capers who became her son from the beginning. "HER FAITH" Florence accepted Christ at an early age in Mississippi. In Detroit, she became a member of Timothy Baptist Church. In 1996, Florence was introduced to Kadesh Baptist Church by her youngest son Dave Dickson where she flourished in church. She was a faithful member of the Progressive Choir and love to cook for their Prayer breakfasts. Florence picked up and dropped off anyone who needed a ride to and from church with no hesitation. Florence loved her church and church family it brought her so much joy. Now, Florence faith was tested several times but she didn't give up she kept the faith and she fought the good fight. When she survived breast and kidney cancer almost thirty years ago, she told everyone she's a living testimony, keep praying, God is able, keep the faith and keep holding on to God's unchanging hand. Florence favorite chapters to read out the Bible were Psalms 27 and Psalms 91. Throughout her illness, Florence fought the good fight of faith still calling on the name of "Jesus" and giving "Him" praise. "HER LIFE" Florence was a true woman of God a real life angel. She was a clean sharp dresser from head to toe, she loved fashion. She kept her hair nice and neat. When she did her hair it looked like a professional had did it, she had skills for pressing hair. Florence was the most giving, kind-hearted person who put everybody needs before her own with no complaints. She did all she could for everyone and if she couldn't make it happen she found a way to make it happen. Florence was a very forgiving person and taught others to forgive no matter what she believed in forgiveness, she was humble, meek and pure, she was a beautiful soul inside and out. But one thing about Florence, she was not afraid to speak her mind and tell you like it is; the truth and she was right. Florence had many gifts but cooking was her specialty she could make a five-course gourmet meal out of scraps. She was so pleased to cook for others sometimes she didn't eat herself. Her great spirit, and great food brought joy to the hearts to anyone who had the luxury to consume it. Florence cooking was always the highlight atevery holiday, birthday and family reunion. More importantly her cooking brought her family together and we all loved her for that.
