Celebrating The Life Of Fannie Mae Williams: Fannie Mae Williams was born on June 16, 1930, in Lizella, Georgia and grew up on the family farm owned by her parents the late Augustus and Janie Boone Williams. Fannie was the ninth of ten children. Five sisters preceded her in death: Helen Bradford, Mildred Brown, Maryann Lipscomb, Gussiemae Shelley and Gertrude Williams. Four brothers: Albert, Benjamin, FM, JC Williams and her eldest child, Joe B. Williams (Juanita Sims-Williams). Fannie was educated in the Georgia School System. At a very early age Fannie moved to Detroit, Michigan where she worked very hard to raise and give her children a strong religious upbringing. She was very independent and believed in taking care of business in an orderly manner. She took pride in having good credit and made sure her bills were always paid on time. She always said, "It's not how much money you make, it's what you do with the money you make." She taught her children to be courteous and respectful and could talk to anybody for hours. Fannie accepted Christ at a very early age and attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Lizella, Georgia. She joined Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in 1962 under the pastorate of the late Pastor James E. Moss and was actively involved up until the 1990's when her work schedule would conflict with church hours. Later, her failing health limited her attendance. However, she never stopped praising, loving and depending on the Lord for everything. Fannie worked for Sinai-Grace Hospital for 24 years as a housekeeping technician. Before Sinai Grace, however, she worked in the private homes of Dr. Stone and Dr. Merrell, where she was both loved and respected. She enjoyed wearing fashionable garments, hats, and shopping for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a good cook and loved her family very much. She would do anything she could for them. Fannie's hobbies were singing and gardening. With the arrival of spring, you could be sure she would have beautiful flowers planted in front of her home. Her lawn was always thick, green and well manicured. Neighborhood children were constantly warned to stay off her grass. She enjoyed planting tomatoes and other vegetables. She had a beautiful voice. If she was at a function and on the program, she would always find an appropriate song. The next door neighbor always commented that he could hear her singing from the open kitchen window during the summer months. He said, "It was like a free concert."
