Mrs. Evelyn Robertson-Lett

Evelyn's Journey Of A Lifetime: Evelyn Lett was born on July 9, 1945 to the parents of Eugene and Goldean Robertson, who preceded her in death, in West Point, Mississippi. Mr. and Mrs. George Robertson (grandparents), Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bowens (grandparents), Charles (brother), David (brother), Evelyn (sister-in-law), Hugh (brother), Walter (husband), and LiTorea (son) have also preceded her in death. Evelyn confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined the St. Robertson church in Clay County, Mississippi. She attended Fifth Street High School and graduated in May of 1964. Following graduation Evelyn continued her pursuit of education and attended Mary Holmes Jr. College, Lane College, where she pledged AKA, and lastly the University of Michigan. During this time she met some of her very best friends, Mary Ann and Dora, in which she lovingly called her “bosom buddies” and maintained friendships with them for over fifty years. In 1970, Evelyn moved to Detroit, Michigan to begin teaching in the Pontiac and Highland Park school districts. While teaching, she also discovered her love for entrepreneurship. Evelyn founded the Peter Cottontail Nursery School in 1974 that she operated for many years. Afterward she became the owner of Evelyn’s Bakery and Catering, servicing as a haven for fresh baked goods. Years later, she would also add the title of author under her belt after writing and publishing “The Journey of A Lifetime: True Tales, Food for Thought, and Prescriptions for Living.” During the fall of 1982, Evelyn met the love of her life, Walter, and was married in 1983. From this union she had two daughters, Charinsela and Monyai. For the next 36 years Evelyn continued to be a burst of sunshine in everyone’s life that she encountered. She was always so happy and positive no matter the experience or situation life may have thrown her way. The unconditional love that Evelyn consistently exuded to all of her family, nieces, nephews, and friends was truly heartfelt. Last but not least, Evelyn continued to remain an unwavering Christian and woman of God. She heard the invitation from Martha Jean “The Queen” Steinberg on the radio and received the Holy Inspired Teachings on November 23, 1991. Daughter of Zion Evelyn became an active member of the Home of Love, and served faithfully as a member of Queen’s radio Ministry Counter. She would serve on this committee after Sunday service and with the Queen’s Community Workers Prayer Breakfast. When the church had special events Daughter of Zion Evelyn prepared delicious foods and homemade dinner rolls, while always supporting the fund raising activities for the Home of Love. On Monday January 28, 2019 Daughter of Zion Evelyn Lett said “yes” and agreed with the will of the Father to evolve to another plane of life.
