Celebrating The Life And Legacy Of Eugene Johnson: Eugene Johnson, affectionately known as Sweets was born September 6, 1951 to the late Samuel and Orieta Johnson in Detroit, Michigan. Eugene graduated from Northeastern High School, after graduating high school he was employed at Chrysler plant and from there he worked as a Dietary Aide for Redford Geriatric Nursing Home in the city of Redford. Eugene enjoyed his job immensely because he was such a lover of people, he never met a stranger, and he could converse with anyone on any level, because of his candid personality. The staff as well as the patients at the Nursing home looked forward to Eugene coming to work, he loved the geriatric community and they loved him back. Eugene devoted his life’s work to this community until he retired in 2007. Faith, family, and good clean fun were his mantra. Eugene accepted Christ when the Lord knocked on the door of his heart in 1986 at the Mission of Love Church of God in Christ. He learned the fundamentals of faith and the Christian walk from the Mission as it was affectionately known. As Eugene matured in his Christian walk he received the call to ministry at Deliverance Center under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Greg Booker. It was at Deliverance Center where he fully operated in his spiritual gifts in upholding the banner of praise, if you knew Eugene you knew that he loved to praise God through dance as the praise team would go forth, he loved to preach even more. Eugene was ordained to preach the gospel and he shared his gift in and outside the four walls of the church. The last message preached by Elder. Eugene Johnson was “I’m hooked on Jesus.” His favorite scripture he would meditate on was Romans 8:38 (For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.) “Family is where life begins and love never ends.” Eugene cherished his family and loved to spend each moment of life with them whether it was in celebrating a milestone in life; or working through the challenging moments we experience from time to time. But one thing for sure he loved to do life together with his family. Eugene was blessed to have found the love of his life (Janise), they were happily married on September 17, 2011 until Eugene’s transition. Eugene will be sorely missed by his lifetime partners: his wife, family, and friends. Eugene Johnson made his transition from earth to a life of eternity with his heavenly father on July 28, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Orieta Johnson, his brothers Clifford Johnson, Henry Johnson, and Roger Grant, his son Eugene Whitlow. He leaves his indelible mark on the lives that were connected to him: his lovely wife Janise Johnson, his brothers and lifelong friends: Timothy Lunsford, Plas Johnson, his motherly little sister, JoAnn Hudson (Ernest Hudson). His sister in law, Vanita Johnson (California), His children who were his prize possessions: Cortez Whitlow, Andre Davis, (Yasheika Davis), Marcus Johnson (Nina Johnson). His special stepchildren: Laquisha Brown (Omar Brown), Autumn Harris (Ray Harris), Passion Anderson, Lisa Doss, Bonnie De Sanctis (Jonathan Alexander De Sanctis), Kenyetta Hooper, Louis Hooper, Regina Bates. Nephews: Clifford Eugene Johnson (Oklahoma), Roger Grant, Rasheed Johnson, Kyran Adams (Grafenwohr, Germany). His nieces: LaToya Adams (Grafenwohr, Germany), Tasharra Williams, Adjua L. Grant. Two special cousins who grew up with Eugene as brothers Terry and Dwayne. 34 grandchildren and one great grandson whom he loved very dearly and took great pride in. Eugene had a special bond with his friend and brother, Elder Ernest Hudson, they would spend many hours together in Ernest's home having Bible Study faithfully, once a week, and for a while they spent quality time together every weekend, going skating on Friday nights, Bible study on Saturday's and Church on Sundays. Eugene took pride in saying, if I ever ran into a problem with the Bible; he knew who to go to for answers, his friend and brother Hudson as he affectionately called him. Good Clean Fun is what Sweets, Johnson, Eugene, Honey, Pops, Paw, Daddy, brother, unc, and friend would want for you all. No tears for me he would say, but instead picture me rolling on my wheels very suave and debonair, Remember the consecutive strikes I would bowl, see me clean as a tack with my trench coat and suit, on a glorious Sunday morning oh and don’t forget my Kango! See me stepping in the name of love, agape that is, see my contagious smile and hear my laughter, remember all of my words of wisdom and witty sayings, remember my love for you and that I always want the best for you, remember I am no longer in pain but enjoying the cleanest fun in a state of no worry and all worship, most of all remember God and get hooked on Jesus and you will see me then “you know what I’m saying.”
