Ms. Emma Jean Cook

In Loving Memory Of Emma Jean Cook, born on February 9, 1948, in Wetumpka, AL to the union of the late Mr. Graham Cook Sr. and Mrs. Lucy Cook. Emma was one of ten children and the youngest daughter. Emma graduated from W.B. Doby High School in 1966 and then attended H. Councill Trenholm State Technical College for cosmetology. Later she moved to Detroit in 1968. In Detroit, Emma met Charlie Jenkins, and from this unification, Rodney Cook Sr. was born in 1970, which was her only child, who affectionately called her “Old Bird”. Emma was a diligent worker and worked in many industries and always maintained two jobs simultaneously. She was employed by Spartan Atlantic, Kingsway, Comerica Bank, FedEx and the Ambassador Bridge. Fun, fun, fun was the best way to describe Emma. Everyone loved her quick wit, sense of humor, outgoing personality and her infectious smile. Emma lit up any room that she was in, not just with her personality but with her colorful choice of words! Anyone that knew Emma is sure to have a memorable story to share. Emma loved shopping and looking her best, going to parties and attending different functions. She also liked participating in church and was a member of Wings of Love. During her down time, she enjoyed watching Fox 2 Detroit. You were not allowed to touch the dial or change the channel, or it was going to be a problem! Emma’s life will forever be cherished by her son Rodney Cook Sr.(Danielle M. Williams, companion), one grandchild Rodney Cook Jr., like a son Gregory Parker, brother Johnnie Cook, Wetumpka, AL, sister Lucy Cook, Montgomery, AL, sisters-in-law Dorothy Cook, Riverdale, GA and Mattie Cook, Atlanta, GA, her closest cousin Margaret Griffin, her dearest friends Doris Dotson, Ora Steeple, Toni Crosby-Dunlap, and Barbara Kirtley, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A special mention is given to Mrs. Talelia Washington “Ms. T” who was Emma’s caregiver, friend and angel. Loved ones who preceded Emma were her siblings Graham Cook Jr., Joel Cook, Willie Cook, Lula M. Hunter, Annie Warren, Sarah Allen and Fannie Mae Crenshaw, her stepmother who she adored, Hattie Cook, good friends Katherine Moore and since childhood, Margaret Johnson. Unexpectedly, Emma departed this life on December 17, 2023, at 6:02 p.m., she will be deeply missed.
