Ms. Ellenore Harris

In Loving Memory of Ellenore Harris was born to proud parents, Odessa Leigh Harris and William Harris Sr. on November 4, 1944 in Detroit, MI. She was the third born of four siblings. She matriculated through the Detroit Public School system where she attended Northern High School. She was a little girl with a vibrant and sassy personality that would capture anyone’s heart. Her mother instilled a love for God in her at an early age and would take her to church with her on Sundays. She loved using her voice to praise the Lord and loved it so much, that she and her sister Frances would risk being caught after curfew hours just to go to church and sing. Little did she know, her love for the Lord would continue to blossom throughout her life through song. Ellenore’s love for singing led her to Church of Our Prayer under the direction of the late Reverend James L. Lofton Sr. and later Reverend James L. Lofton Jr. until his passing. While she was there, she sang in the infamous “Radio Choir” that broadcasted on the radio station WCHB and traveled to many churches locally and nationally singing for the Lord and spreading His love. She enjoyed being a part of such a movement that brought so many souls to Christ. Her love for the Lord led her to Greater Prayer Tabernacle under the leadership of William Reese Jr. She served there faithfully for many years and sang alto in the church’s choir. She looked forward to getting dressed up every Sunday and fellowshipping with her brothers and sisters in Christ. Her love for God and her church family rubbed off on her children and grandchildren and they began attending Greater Prayer Tabernacle as well. Ellenore attended Greater Emmanuel under Bishop Eric Mitchell where she served faithfully on the mother’s board for the past 10 years. She looked forward to attending every Sunday until her health began to deteriorate. Even so, she still attended the broadcasted service and longed for the day when she’d be able to attend again in person. She loved to socialize, travel, sing, write, and spend time with those she loved. If you needed a lucky number or two to play, she’d give you that as well. She would never forget your birthday and always made it a point to call her loved ones to wish them well. Everyone knew to never take her kindness for granted because you’d then be introduced to her spicier side. She was an audacious spirit that would never back down from a good banter. She loved hard and no matter what stage you were going through in your life, she’d be your shoulder. Ellenore will be missed by so many and leaves a gaping hole in our hearts. Preceding her in death were her mother, Odessa Leigh Harris; her father, William Harris Sr.; her sister, Frances Herron; her sister, Gloria Russell; and her great-grandson Kroix Bn’Jaman. She leaves behind to cherish her memory four children, Alfreda Harris (Detroit, MI), Selena Turner (Northlake, TX),Frederick Lamont Harris (Detroit, MI), and Tamisha Nicole Mullen (Detroit, MI), two siblings William (Cheryl) Harris and Juanita Smith, thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, spiritual daughters and sons, and friends. She will be missed by many.
