Mrs. Eleanor Ruth Edwards

Eleanor Ruth Harris Cook Edwards was born January 8, 1947 in Benham, Kentucky to William Henry (Babe Ray) Cook, Sr. and Nettie B. Harris Cook, who both preceded her in death. Ella accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized at A.M.E. Zion Methodist Church in Kentucky. She continued fellowship at Triumph Church, in Southfield, Michigan. In her early childhood years Ella, lived with and was raised by her grandparents who she lovingly called Daddy Green and Momma Ruth. She shared a sisterly love with her cousin Bobbie Sawyer, who preceded her in death. Ella attended the Benham (Colored) School System until the 10th grade, where she was a cheerleader. In 1963, after integration she attended her junior and senior year at Cumberland High school, she graduated in 1965. Ella moved to Michigan early 1966, where she met her loving husband Arsemus (Zeke) Edwards who preceded her in death in 2008. Ella proudly counted every year of marriage. Ella was employed with General Motors. She worked in vehicle assembly. Ella always bragged about slinging just as much steel as the men in her department. She retired in 1998, after 27 years of service. After retirement her past time was spent cherishing every moment with her grandchildren and making desserts for the family. Ella held the title as the Dessert Queen. There is not a person in the world who did not fall in love with her or her cakes and banana pudding. As the oldest sibling of ten, Ella was looked at as a mother figure by all. Ella did not meet a stranger and anyone she ever met instantly became family. She loved watching sports and was an avid Detroit Lions Fan. Ella had a very giving heart and would go without to ensure she had something to give to others. Ella was also known for her weekly Walmart runs, she spent hours shopping and ensuring she got everyone a card for every occasion. She also kept the infamous passing out $2.00 bills for Christmas tradition going. On April 15, 2024 Ella was called home. Ella was reunited in Heaven with her three brothers; William Henry Cook Jr., Curtis Nathanial Cook Sr. And Victor (Nikki) Cook. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: siblings, Deborah Ann Cook-Daniels, Jacqueline Brannon (Desni), Jacques Cook, Johnny Ray Cook, James (Duct) Cook and Victoria R. Cook-Lee; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Jennifer, Gondale (preceded in death); two brothers-in law, Willie Frank and Melvin; four loving daughters, Yvonne (Allen), Barbara, LaQuetta and Shynita (Lawrence); two sons, Alphie (Evangeline) and Keith; one bonus daughter Eboni (Andre); 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one goddaughter Renotta Davis (Toriano); her best friend JoAnna Bonner; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
