Ms. Dolores Esther Sherifrf

Dolores Esther Porter was born on December 4, 1946, to the late Essie May and Theatres Hill. She was a loving mother, sister, mentor, and friend whose legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Dolores grew up in a large and lively family, sharing her childhood with nine siblings: Nellie (deceased), Mary, James (Sarah), David (Mona), Marita (Kevin), Theda (deceased), Maxine, Theartress (Gina), and Robert (deceased). The bonds she formed with her family remained strong throughout her life, shaping her commitment to love, service, and faith. A proud Cass Technical High School graduate, Dolores shone as a talented swimmer, earning awards and recognition as part of the school’s swim team. Her determination and drive propelled her to further her education. She went on to earn her Associate’s degree from Shaw College then went on to earn a Master’s in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. Beginning her career as a candy striper, Dolores served patients throughout the Metro Detroit area, including Receiving Hospital, where she worked as an emergency room nurse, Hutzel Hospital, where she provided care in the maternity ward, and the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital, where she rose through the ranks to reach the position of Director of Dialysis. Her 40 years of dedicated service at the VA Hospital touched countless lives and left an indelible mark. Dolores was also a proud member of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated, and the Beta Chapter in Detroit, Michigan, where she forged lifelong friendships and demonstrated her commitment to excellence. A devout believer in Christ, Dolores accepted Jesus as her Savior at an early age. She served as a leader in the S.T.A.R.S. Ministry (Saved Teens, Anointed, Righteous, Servants), guiding teenage girls in their spiritual journeys. She organized outings, led community service initiatives, and taught young women how to live as servants of the Lord. Later in life, she became an active member of Born to Win Ministries, where she served on the Mother Board and cherished her church family, especially Pastor Clark and Lady Jai. Dolores loved the arts, her heritage, and spending time with her family. She had an exceptional talent for bringing people together through events filled with laughter, love, and good food. She leaves behind a loving legacy in her four sons: Geno (Betty), Micah, Kelvin (LeeAnn), and Omar (San); eight grandchildren: Amicah, Amber, Jasmine, Kelvin Jr. (Deuce), Q, Danny, Jacob, and Kennedy; and seven great-grandchildren: Amond, Amani, Byrd, Amir, DJ (her kissy face), Rose, and soon-to-arrive Marvel. She is also survived by her siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends and loved ones. Dolores was a light in the lives of many, a woman of faith, love, and unwavering determination.
