Supt. Cleodis Wells

Cleodis Wells was born September 4, 1939, in Sparkman, Arkansas. He was the sixth child born to Deacon Evandust and Mother Q. Ozella Wells. He was born eight minutes before the seventh child, his twin sister, Cleolia. Mother and Dad Wells trained the children to go to church, school and work. He was educated and graduated from the Sparkman Public School System. One of the twins was valedictorian and the other salutatorian. Immediately upon graduation, in 1958, Cleodis relocated to Detroit, Michigan. He was employed by and retired after thirty years from Ford Motor Company, where he received numerous awards for his impeccable performance as well as his ministering and counseling many of his co-workers. Even though Cleodis left his parents and moved to Detroit, he did not leave his training. He joined Greater Northwest Church of God in Christ with his sister, Agnes Rance, and brother, Ozzie Wells. Later he married the love of his life, Pamela Jo Carol Hurse. They were married forty-two years and to this union they had one son, Carl, and one grandson, "Little" Carl. He was stable and committed to the Lord, his family, his church and his employer. Joining Greater Northwest became a life-long commitment. He was a consistent and active member of his church for nearly 57 years. He attended Greater Northwest Bible Seminary under the direction of the founding pastor, the late Bishop Green D. Moore. He served for over twenty years as the co-founder of the Couples A-Glow Ministry. He went from choir member, to deacon, to minister, to Sunday School Superintendent and eventually an ordained elder by the late Bishop Moore in 1983. He faithfully served Greater Northwest under the leadership of both Bishop G. D. Moore and Bishop Isaac King, Jr. Elder Wells was also appointed Sunday School Superintendent at the jurisdictional level; first, by Bishop Earl J. Wright of Southwest Michigan Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction and second, by Bishop Isaac King, Jr. of the Agape Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction with field representative Missionary Gloria Maxwell. He was always found to be heartily working for the Lord and involved in formal study. Elder Wells was in the first graduating class of the Greater Northwest & Bible Training Institute. Elder Wells was observed as having the “heart of a pastor.” He could always be found serving in prayer, the Bishop G. D. Moore Tambourine Brigade, the choir, and he flowed in the ministry of singing, where he was anointed and many were healed and set free. He drove the church van, visited nursing homes, mentored young men, worked with the church maintenance and had a passion for church outreach. His service extended beyond the church. He was also active in the Lorraine Seals Food Outreach Ministry, the After School Excel Program, and his neighborhood activities. Elder Cleodis Wells was appointed the third pastor of Greater Northwest Church of God in Christ by Bishop Isaac King, Jr. in 2004. Bishop King also, at the request of the Inspirational District's Superintendent Bennie Elloutt, appointed Pastor Wells as Assistant Superintendent. After the demise of Superintendent Elloutt, he became Superintendent with District Missionaries Janice Edmonds-Martin, followed by Evelyn Jones, and current District Missionary Jynean Chandler. During his tenure, Superintendent Wells received numerous awards and recognition for outstanding achievement in support of the Agape Ecclesiastical Jurisdictional Women's Department. Superintendent Cleodis Wells served his family, church, district and jurisdiction faithfully even in the midst of his illness. His wife, Pamela, was untiringly committed to her marital vows, exhibiting the promise "in sickness and in health, till death do us part." His wife and family were blessed to be with him as he made his transition on March 5, 2014.
