Ms. Cheryl Lynette Lang

Cheryl Lynette Lang was born in Detroit, MI, on December 16, 1956, to Walter and Pocahontas Lang. She was the youngest daughter and the fourth of five children from this union. Cheryl’s journey of learning began at the Hamtramck Public School system, where she was not just well-liked but also admired by both peers and teachers. Her dedication and hard work led her to achieve academic excellence and become a member of the esteemed National Honor Society. Cheryl’s thirst for knowledge took her to Michigan State University, where she not only gained a master’s in Speech Pathology but also a degree in Public Administration, a testament to her diverse interests and capabilities. Cheryl was a dedicated professional who made a significant impact during her 42-year tenure at Detroit Public Schools. Cheryl served as a speech-language pathologist and was widely recognized for her efficiency, attention to detail, and unwavering commitment to her work. Her exceptional skills and dedication earned her a place on the prestigious Green Bar team, where she continued to excel. Cheryl’s exemplary performance led to her promotion to Supervisor in 2002, a role in which she served with distinction for eight years. Throughout her career, she was known for her professionalism, preparedness, and proficiency in all that she did. After retiring in 2010, Cheryl selflessly returned to the district to give back and continue supporting the community that she cared for deeply. Her legacy of hard work, dedication, and service has left an imprint on the many lives she impacted. She will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Cheryl loved spending time with her family and friends. She often hosted gatherings for holidays in her well-decorated home. She loved home décor and had decorations for every occasion. One of her greatest joys was playing board games and doing arts and crafts with her nieces and nephews. She would carry games and toys around just in case she saw one of them. Cheryl solved daily word puzzles; you could find her doodles from that day’s puzzle on small pieces of paper. Although Cheryl didn’t have any children of her own, she stepped into that role for her younger brother, Brett Lang, after the passing of their mother, Pocahontas. Their close bond was more of a mother-son relationship than a sister-brother one. Cheryl loved sharing stories, updates, and photos of her family with friends and coworkers so much that you felt a sense of knowing them even if you had never met them. Cheryl’s faith was a guiding light in her life. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and was an active member of the administration team at Faith Experience. Cheryl’s faith was not just a belief but a way of life. She would correct people when they said, “God is good,” saying, “No, God is great!” Her faith was accompanied by a generous spirit, always ready to supply needs before a person even asked. Cheryl’s words were a source of life and encouragement for those around her, a testament to her strong beliefs and generous heart. Cheryl Lynette Lang departed this life on May 2, 2024, at 5:21 pm, surrounded by her three brothers. She was preceded in death by parents Walter Sr., Pocahontas, sister Angela, and nephew Julian. She will always be lovingly remembered by her siblings Walter Jr. (Carol), Gary, Brett (Arika), Nephews: Jason (Tanya), Alexis, Jonah, Xavier, Brett Zeric, Nieces: Jessica (Kazu), Porsha (Tremaine), Alana, Paige (Eddie), Elyse, Great nephews: Tyler, Jayden, Dorian Jr., Hero, Elijah, Great nieces: Taylor, Payton, Kali, Makenzie, Erin, Paisley Loved-like family: Margaret, Charlie Roy, Baron, D.D., C.J., Korey, Kyan, Carmen, Ronda, God kids: Christopher, LeiLani, Dear friends: Donna, Monica, Karen, and Sheila.
