Mr. Caylos "Big Los" Calamease, Sr.

Caylos Darwin Calamease, Sr., lovingly known as “Big Los or Baby K” was born on July 1, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan, to the union of the late Clifford Calamease and Cynthia McClendon Calamease. Big Los brought joy wherever he went, always the life of the party, with a vibrant personality and a heart full of love. Big Los devoted his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at United Christian Church Disciples of Christ. From a young age, Big Los had a passion for music and was a smooth presence on the turntables during the 1970s, where he was affectionately known as “DJ Fat Cat.” His love for rhythm and beats remained with him throughout his life especially his admiration for Too Short and classic rap. After his DJ days, Big Los found his true calling as a skilled lather journeyman, proudly following in the footsteps of his late father and uncle. His work ethic and craftsmanship were unmatched until health challenges eventually led him to retire in 2018. Big Los settled in at The Orchards of Redford for rehabilitation after a stint of health issues in 2024. During his time there he enjoyed playing bingo with his fellow residents and attending church services. In his free time, he enjoyed watching his programs on Tubi and spending time with his family. On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 5:45 AM Big Los peacefully transitioned to his Heavenly home. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Clifford and Cynthia Calamease; son, De’Andre Doniver; and his brothers, Billy Ray Calamease and Abraham Calamease of Tulsa, Oklahoma; aunts, Charlotte McClendon, Queen E. Contrell and Ruby M. Taylor; uncle, Earl McClendon. He leaves behind to celebrate and honor his life his wife, Regina Calamease; children, Caylos Calamease, Jr., Cayl’a Calamease, and Ja’Von Doniver; siblings, Chandra Addison of Detroit, MI, Deborah Yarbrough, and LaDonna Calamease Bell of Tulsa, OK; aunt, Reverend Dr. Nora L. Shumake; uncle, Judge Samuel (Joanne) McClendon of Washington, D.C., and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at The Orchards of Redford for their dedicated care and support during his time there. Big Los will be remembered for his laughter, loyalty, and jokes. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
