Rev. Carolyn Edwards

Carolyn Hollingquest was born June 3, 1947 in Gadsden, Alabama to Luther Elliott Jr and Sedalia Bozeman. She was the eldest of nine siblings. Carolyn accepted Christ and was baptized early at the age of six. She attended Gadsden Public Schools, including Carver High School, before moving to Detroit, Michigan at the age of seventeen. Carolyn met and later married Arthur Lee Edwards Jr on June 25, 1966. They shared forty-one years of marriage until his death in 2007. Carolyn worked at ADT Security Systems for twenty-nine years until the company moved their operations out-of-state. Carolyn was a life-long learner; she completed her GED in 1986 and went on to study at Wayne County Community College, Detroit College of Business, Biblical Counseling at Rosedale Park Baptist Church, Ecumenical Theological Seminary, and received her master’s degree from Destiny School of Ministry. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed social media. Carolyn was a faithful and consistent member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church for over forty years. She served on many boards and in several capacities including Superintendent of Christian Education and Mission Board President. She took great pride in founding the ROSE group (Relationship, Outreach, Service, and Encouragement), a very successful group of young people who ministered to the needs of senior citizens, senior high school students at the church, and a girls’ home in downtown Detroit. In 2001, under the leadership of Clarence L. Crews, she was licensed to preach the Gospel. In 2012, she received ordination from Evangel Association of Ministries and Churches. Rev. Carolyn Edwards was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and several sisters, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. Rev. Carolyn Edwards made her transition into eternity on April 16, 2024. She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories: son Min. Arthur Edwards III; daughter Rev. Kimberly Edwards and stepdaughter Mona Jemison; brothers Donald Bozeman and William Robinson; sister Tammy Robinson and stepsister Zenobia Gibson; brothers-in-law Willie Edwards and Lloyd Burt; sisters-in-law Jennifer Edwards, Dorothy Kindle, Sharon Burt, and Debra Pointer; two granddaughters Octavia Edwards and Saleria Jones; and a host of close relatives and friends.
