Mrs. Carolyn Bellman

Mittie Carolyn Bellman was born February 26, 1951 to the late George Washington Kirkland Sr. and Hattie Dorothy Kirkland in North Carolina. She was the 5th of 10 children. Our dear mother Mittie Carolyn Bellman sadly passed away on June 27, 2024, at the age of 73 surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, nephew and other loved ones at Corewell Hospital in Grosse Pointe. After beating the “C” word once, she lost that battle the second time but won the war and the Angels rejoiced. Mittie, who preferred to be called by her middle name, Carolyn, matriculated through the Landrum School system in North Carolina. Carolyn worked in retail and was a homecare worker. She was an entrepreneur who made greeting cards and dinners. Carolyn was a poet who turned that passion into a greeting card business. Carolyn also loved to cook and from that passion she made meals, dinners and pies. Her food was so much loved that family and friends would ask her to cook extra things for them. In 1971, Carolyn married Roderick (Neal) Bellman, who preceded her in death. To this union her only daughter, the late Darchelle Alethea Bellman was born, and two sons Darrick Lamort (Stacy) Bellman Sr. and Demark Lacray Bellman Sr. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering prayer, wisdom, and love in abundance. Carolyn gave her life over to Christ about the age of 18 when the family came to Detroit and joined Redeem Church of God in Christ. She served the Lord on many committees and was even the moderator over one in which her father was the keynote speaker. Carolyn was the church mother at Jesus is Here Church and was a prayer warrior. She mentored many young ladies in the ministry, showing them love, compassion and understanding. She was a devoted, faithful member at every church that she called her church home. A friend to many, she was a cherished member of the COGIC community, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength. Carolyn was affectionately named “Pooh Pooh” by Darrick Jr. and was known to many by that name. She was called Church Mother to most and Curly by the nieces and nephews. Preceded in Glory by her parents George Washington Kirkland Sr. and Hattie Dorothy Kirkland, her daughter Darchelle Alethea Bellman, and her grandson John Jerrone Frazier. She leaves behind to cherish and honor her loving memory two sons: Darrick (Stacy) Bellman, Demark Bellman, ten grandchildren: Darrick Bellman Jr., Anjela Coburn, Bryanna McCain, Alexis Bellman, Denna Bellman, Demark Bellman Jr, Julien Frazier, Channel Bellman, Dashia, Bellman and Asia Bellman, four great grandchildren: Darrick Bellman III, Charm Bellman, Amiyah Humphries and Aria Humphries, LaTanya Bellman the mother of six of her grandchildren, two brothers: George (Indy) Kirkland Jr., Michael Kirkland, and 7 sisters: Deborah Morrison, Linda (John) Douglas, Dolly (Giovanni) Means-Porter, Pansy (Andre) Warren, Tanya McMullen, Wanda Saffold and Denna Kirkland, along with countless nieces, nephews, and friends who felt her warmth and kindness.
