Mr. Booker T. Hooks Jr.

In Loving Memory Of Deacon Booker T. Hooks Jr. was born July 11, 1934 to the union of Booker T. Hooks Sr. and Marie Daniels in Detroit, Michigan. Booker was also known as "BIG JR." He was the fourth of seven children. Chapter 1 Booker attended The Detroit Public School System, and later accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late O.J. Harris of True Love Temple COGIC. This is where he met his first love Beulah Mae Hemphill. They united in holy matrimony January 1958. Into this union came four children Gerald Jerome, Eric Orlando, Irving Randall, and Marcia Devoé. At this time in Booker's life he began working for General Motors maintaining a suitable work life balance making family trips and gatherings joyous times spent together. The Hooks family were faithful members of God's Holy Tabernacle COGIC under the late Superintendent Zelte Crawford now known as Life Church and now Pastor Anthony Starks. He was ordained as a Deacon on March 9, 2008. After 33 years of marital bliss Beulah succumb to her illness and went home to be with the Lord. Chapter 2 Booker met his second love Gladys L. Felder and they were united in Holy Matrimony in 1992. They traveled and enjoyed each other's company along with the company of their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters and their dogs Toby and Chester. Booker retired from General Motors after 30 years of service where he and Gladys enjoyed their retirement together. In the 2000s Booker and Gladys joined Citadel of Praise under Pastor Spencer T. Ellis where he was a faithful Senior Usher. He was known as "the Usher with the candy". Vacationing to Niagara Falls and attending The Lion King Broadway play, was one of their favorite events. Gladys was called home to be with the Heavenly Father in 2021. Final Chapter Booker kept the faith and the same loving and caring spirit. He loved his hard candy, gardening, fishing, wrestling with the kids and enjoyed his favorite cake, which we all know is a caramel cake. Booker was the family Patriarch, protector and muscle. He was always a call away and he showed up every time READY, "If you know, you know." Booker's last vacation he enjoyed his time with family in Myrtle Beach for Christmas. He was able to go fishing on the pier where he was the only person who caught a fish. As his health began to decline his spirits remained high as he continued to fight. Booker transitioned from his earthly body to his well earned reward on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at home surrounded by loved ones. Booker was preceded in death by his parents, Booker T. Hooks Sr. and Marie Daniels: Siblings, Virginia, Fredrick, Eddie, Patricia, Johnny, James (Jackie), Lucille (Winston), Lorene, Rose (Elder Fred Mitchell), George, and Ella: children, Gerald, Eric, Starlett, David, and Sharon: wives Beulah and Gladys. He also was blessed with special friendships with Coy James and Dorothy Starks, and Deacon John Baker. Carrying on his legacy and memory are his children Irving, Marcia, Renee, Philip and Cleveland. Siblings: Edna (Douglas), Marianne, Geneva, Boyd, Ruth, Mary. Grandchildren: Candace (Juarez), Cristan, Corey, Tiffany, Shanya, Camari, Quoelette, and Deneen. Great-Grandchildren: Jalen, Blake, Anthony, Ryan, Mylan, Blair, Armani, Giovanni, Cadence, Romondo, Denaija, and Quannell. Goddaughter: Angelique Starks. Friends; Margaret Baker, Joseph and Lakita Spencer, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and the church families of Life Church and Citadel of Praise.
