Mrs. Bonita Mary Louise Brown

Mrs. Bonita Mary Louise (Jenkins) Brown was born March 30, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the daughter of William L. Jenkins and Allene (Burbridge) Guillebeaux; her father preceded her in death. She graduated from Ferndale High School and received her degree from Jackson Community College as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Bonita accepted Christ at an early age at Our Lady of Victory- Detroit. Bonita had two children from her first union, Morrice LaMar Lane and daughter Eulanda Allene Lane. On December 26, 1979, Bonita married her life partner and husband James Arnold Brown II, and from this marriage her children and James' children became a family. In 1982, James and Bonita adopted Ann Satterwhite as their daughter. In 1975, Bonita worked for Kingswood Hospital as a mental health worker, and in 1978, Bonita worked as a store clerk for the State Prison of Southern Michigan. In 1979, Bonita worked as a mental health worker for Hope House in Jackson, Michigan. In 1981, Bonita joined the staff of Washtenaw Community College where she worked as emergency medical technician and campus safety officer until she retired in 2010. She was ardent about making a difference in the lives and health of the students and staff, coordinating the annual flu and CPR programs. In 2010, Bonita was awarded emeritus staff status in recognition of long term contributions to Washtenaw Community College and its students. In 1994, she entered into business with her mother and two sisters opening Les Seours Masion, bed and breakfast, and LaCafeth Coffee House, which operated successfully until 2004. Bonita was also an active member in the community and volunteered on community beautification projects. She recently worked on President Obama's re-election campaign. Family and friends were Bonita's passion and joy. She enjoyed spending holidays and vacations with family. She willingly opened her home to all in need becoming mother to the motherless. She loved to cook and entertain and frequently had family dinners at her house. She was known as the family cook, her mouth watering "mac & cheese" one of the many favorites. Bonita was a "diva" and didn't even know it. She was always seen dressed to the "nines" on any occasion from coffee in the kitchen, to the park, to watching television, or out on the town with her husband James. Their clothing was synced together giving them the fashion award of "two thumps up and a triple snap."
