Mrs. Augusta Clarise Travis-Dixon

Unbroken in spirit and love, Augusta Clarise Travis-Dixon passed away February 9, 2023, at Sinai Grace Hospital. August Clarise Travis was born April 29,1942 in Louisville, KY. On that day, a great and magnificent child was born to the union of Namon Henry Travis Sr. and Willie Augusta Travis. With this union six children were born. Lil Gussie as she was often referred to as a child was the fourth of their six children. With her heavenly rise she has joined both parents as well as well as siblings Eloise, Naomi, Tyrone, and Namon Jr. She is survived by one brother who she affectionately called her baby brother Keith Sr (Judy), Son Rodney, and Daughters Allegra, Leslie (Kendrick) and Debbie (Mitch). Augusta attended Louisville Central High School where she met and married her first love William (Bill) Giles. With their love they were blessed with 2 beautiful children Rodney and Allegra. In the early 1960's they moved to Washington, D.C. before settling in Detroit. Later in life she met & married her true love, her deceased husband and best friend Charles Dixon. With this union she received bonus love from their daughters Leslie & Debbie. Combined they had a total of seventeen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren to go along with a host of nephews and nieces. “Grandma, thank you for being there for us. My heart is broken. I wish you could have stayed here forever. I miss you grandma, your Dynamite.” Throughout her life she served roles in her career. She worked as a youth advisor at Kettering High School as well as the YMCA. She worked at Chrysler for a moment before leaving for medical reasons. Later, she was a manager at Mobil. The highlight of her career was working the 88 Jesse Jackson campaign in Michigan as a headquarter manager and helping him win the Michigan Democratic Caucus. She loved politics and served as a poll worker for over 20 years Her true talent was bringing people together whether you liked it or not. Bringing you into her heart, which brought you into her true love her FAMILY. Over the years she gave pieces of her heart to others, yet she was strong enough to move on in life and continue to love others. “Your physical presence does not limit the bond and love we shared You will always be in my heart. “Karen “I miss you grandma.
