Mrs April Lee Humphrey

In Loving Memory Of: Mrs. April Lee Humphrey was born on August 20, 1961, in Detroit, Michigan to the late David Lee and Doris Jean Washington. She grew up the third of four girls on Detroit’s west side and attended Detroit Public Schools. She was an avid reader and an above average student. April was a graduate of Western International High School and attended Wayne County Community College. She went on to work in the banking industry. April enjoyed many of the arts to include poetry and modern dance. She also enjoyed bike riding and roller skating with her sisters and cousin. She was frequently featured on The Scene, a Detroit dance broadcast. April was baptized at the age of 12 years old at Galatian Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev Burroughs. She professed her faith in Jesus Christ and at one point she served as the President of the Baptist youth conference. April also served on the usher board and sang in the choir. April joined Pentecostal Outreach COGIC in 1985 where she served under the late Elder Leon Humphrey. The two would later wed in holy matrimony on February 22, 1986 at Anderson Memorial COGIC by Bishop C.L. Anderson. This union was blessed with 3 daughters. She also gained 1 stepdaughter, and 3 adult stepsons. April had a love of plants and flowers. She took pride in growing her vegetables and would easily spend hours working diligently in her garden. She also enjoyed decorating and ordering from the home shopping network. She became an active member of Evangel Ministries, serving on the praise team and volunteering when she could. April leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Aprila Ringo, Lapri Humphrey (Anthony Hudson), Priscilla Humphrey; stepsons Adrian (Beatrice) Humphrey, Kenneth (Gabby) Humphrey; sisters, Yvonne Gipson, Nicole Henderson, sister-cousin Paula Corporan ; granddaughter Autumn; nieces Christy Scott, Navonna (Terrance) Shavers, Danyale (Elijah) Mason; one nephew Brian Billingsley; stepfather James Henderson; aunts, RL “Ruth” Myles, Natlee Netters, Mary, Camilla, Mozetta, Linda Sweden; along with one great-niece and two great-nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Leon Humphrey; her parents, David Washington and Doris Washington-Henderson; grandmother Alma “Madear” Sweden; sister Leila Scott; stepchildren William and Lisa Humphrey; aunts Erma, Alma Lee, and Brenda Sweden; uncles Tommy Wooden, John, Clarence, Mose and Gerald Sweden.
