Mr. Anthony Winston Bailey

Anthony Winston Bailey, known affectionately as Tony, was born on November 3, 1944, in Grand Mal, St. Georges, Grenada, to Cecilia Pierre and Douglas Bailey. He was predeceased by his brothers Leonard and Oliver Bailey and his beloved parents. He was a teenager when he moved to London, England. He attended University in London and graduated with a degree in engineering. He was hired as an engineer with General Motors (GM) and moved to New York City in his early 20's. In 1974 GM transferred him to Michigan. After retiring from General Motors, his entrepreneurial desire led him to open a restaurant/café in downtown Detroit. His other business ventures over the years included a physical therapy clinic and a Ford dealership in Genesee County. His hobbies and interests included golf, football (American soccer), watching cricket, and enjoying the latest films at the cinema with his beloved wife, Pat. In addition, he was an avid foodie who loved cooking for everyone for whom he cared. His delicious meals will be sorely missed. He enjoyed travel and storytelling, and loved to laugh and tell jokes whenever the chance arose. Tony was a devoted Christian gentleman who exuded love, compassion, intellect, class, and style. He was serious about his relationship with God and demonstrated Christian principles in his daily life. Tony always had a kind word, making others feel special and appreciated. The best way we can honor Tony is to emulate his legacy of Christian Discipleship. He was a founding member of Empowerment Church, where he worshipped for many years. Not only did he serve as a Pathfinder at the church, but as a choir member, as part of the security staff, a committee member for the Silver Garden Event Center and as a mentor to many. He often attended church with his wife, Pat, at New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, where he was loved and adored. On Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 9:13 p.m., Tony departed this world when he heard God whisper his name, calling him home to eternal life. Tony leaves, not to mourn, but to cherish his precious memories his dedicated and loving wife, Pat Bailey and her family, his children: Mark Bailey, Jason Bailey, Anthony Bailey II, & Melissa Bailey Hawry (Liam Hawry), Elliot Meaux (Shavaughn Meaux), Aaronn Pyke, and Brandon Pyke (Ebony); his grandchildren: Ashley Bailey, Morgan Bailey, Madison Bailey, Justin Bailey, Ethan Bailey, Addison Bailey, Carson Bailey, Miles Hawry, Linden Hawry, Shi Audrey, Ethan Bryant, Gabriella, Olivia, Chance; and a large extended family of siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins in both the United States and abroad. His memory will be cherished always by his loyal and distinguished friend and wife, Major General Robert W. and Linda Smith, his church family and friends, his dog Codee; and his young mentee, Josiah (Jo Jo) Braswell.
