Celebrating The Life Of Annie Morris: Annie Craig Morris, the youngest of eight children, was born June 3,1921 in Seneca, (Oconee County) South Carolina to the late Earl and Ezzie Craig. She was the last matriarch of her generation in the Craig-Morris family. All her siblings preceded her in death. She attended Oconee County Schools. Annie later moved to Detroit with her mother after her father passed. During her employment as one of the historical elevator operators for the retailer J. L. Hudson Company, a tall, dashing young soldier, Lassell Morris, intentionally took a ride on her elevator. The rest is history. Corporal Lassell Morris was honorably discharged September 10,1945 and Lassell and Annie were married October 20,1945. To their union 3 children were born: Marsell Morris (close friend Theressa), Michael Morris (Angetta), and Marie A. Winfree (Isaac). Annie Morris was a devoted wife for 36 1/2 years. Lassell developed a chronic illness during the latter years of their marriage. Annie faithfully cared for him until he passed on May 15, 1982. Who could find a virtuous woman? She worked very hard to help meet the needs of her family. She made great sacrifices to soften hard times. If she heard of a need, she would pray as well as do whatever was necessary to meet the need. She didn't want anyone to suffer. She showed us the true meaning of wealth. She helped to raise three generations. She was affectionately known as Mom" and "Granny" by family and friends down through the generations of family and friends. Shortly after moving to Detroit, Annie gave her life to Christ at the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ (Orleans Street), Elder Croone, pastor. Bishop William L. Bonner was later appointed to pastor the Orleans Street congregation which subsequently grew to be Solomon's Temple. She joined the choir and faithfully attended services along with her sisters, Lena Garrett (MI) and Minnie Owens (SC) who attended whenever she visited Michigan. Mother Morris was supportive of many ministries but never moved her membership from Solomon's Temple. The late Bishop W. L. Bonner remained her pastor until his transition in April, 2015. She was aware of his passing. Mother Morris loved to sing! She was a member of the original Joy Bell Choir. In her youth the Lord would give her songs. In her later years she would often begin to reverently and passionately sing praises to the Lord! It was beautiful to hear! Her favorite song is "Blessed Assurance". She never recorded the words to the songs that were inspired by the Holy Spirit. They are in her heart. She's singing those songs in glory! Mother Morris was also anointed to pray for healing. She would pray for the sick and they would recover. After her husband passed, Annie went to live with her daughter and son-in-law Isaac until she required the skilled care of a nursing facility in July, 2014. Mother Annie Morris transitioned to be with the Lord, while she slept, on May 9, 2015 at Four Chaplains Nursing Center, which lovingly cared for her as their own "Granny," for ten months. "Granny" will be missed by many!
