Mrs. Annie Ruth Cotton

In Remembrance Of Our Beloved Annie Ruth Cotton: Annie Ruth Cotton departed this life on Friday July 21, 2017. She was the sixth child of eight children born to the late Percy and Hattie Olive on December 19, 1924 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters, Fred K. (Ardelia) Olive, Lena Pearl Olive, Lawrence Olive, Clatter Mae (Lupe) Cordova, Mozell (Lord B.) Wright, Percy C. II (Deloris) Olive and Edward L. (Essie Mae) Olive. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Michael (Kathy-deceased) Cotton and Derrick (Gena) Cotton; a sister-in-law, Essie Mae Olive of Milwaukee, WI; one aunt, Mildred Stevenson of Chicago, IL; 11 grandchildren (Andrea, Sharon, Tamika, Neko, Michelle, Martie Jr. Jennifer, Taylor, Bree, Nia, and Corrine); nine great-grandchildren (Jordan, Jaden, Journey, Taylor, Donavan, Daniell, Nicole, Monique, Morgan); two great-great-grandchildren (Dayon, and Noah); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. At an early age she confessed Christ and united with the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and served the Lord with humility, dignity and piety. She attended Simon Davis Elementary and Attala County Training High School. In 1945, she married Curtis Frank Cotton (preceded her in death on November 15, 1997) and moved to Detroit, MI. To this union, four son were born. Two sons preceded her in death, Curtis D Jr. (Brenda) Cotton and Martie O. (Kimertra) Cotton. She joined the Twelfth Street Missionary Baptist Church in 1957. She was an active member and served on the Nurses Ministry, Usher, Choir, and a trustee of the Senior Citizens Ministry. She worked at the Westwood Convalescent Home for almost 20 years then retired on disability; she enjoyed baking, cooking, reading the Bible, being a homemaker, doing crossword puzzles. She loved watching the Detroit Tigers, and Lions, and the musical sounds of B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Luther Van Dross, and Marvin Sapp. Always showing love, and compassion she enjoyed helping others, and dedicated her life to her family and friends; she practiced a very humble life style, with patience and humility from God.
