Mr. Alvin Grady

Celebrating The Life Of Alvin Grady: Alvin Grady was born to James G. Little and the late Eulalah Grady on December 1, 1957 at Herman Keifer Hospital. Alvin was the third of five children to this union. He was educated in the Detroit Public School system however at the age of 17 became distracted and dropped out of school. Years later at the insistence of his wife, Rosalyn Grady, Alvin began his studies and successfully completed and received his GED. On June 18, 1976 he entered into service of the United States Army, 4TH AIT BDE ASATC ENGR TRADOC with the MOS of a motor transportation heavy equipment driver. He went from active duty to the Army National Guard reserves. He obtained an honorable discharge on September 20, 1988. On February 14, 1981 he married the former Rosalyn T. Hadley. This union was blessed with three daughters; Kimberly, Erika, and Bryanne. Five days after the birth of their youngest child, the family moved to Jonesboro, Arkansas for Rosalyn to attend nursing school. In 1991 Roz and the girls moved to Columbus, Ohio. Alvin transferred his job with the State of Arkansas and joined the family in Ohio in 1993. He worked with MRDD individuals in Ohio and then transferred to the Ohio Department of Corrections where he was employed as a Corrections Officer. Alvin was gainfully employed by the Chrysler Corporation, Machus Sly Fox, Inc, Riceland Foods, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, among others. He always found great joy in his girls. His joy was heightened when on January 15, 2001; Xavier Alvin Terrell Grady arrived on the scene. He had the boy that he had not been blessed with. He and Xavier were inseparable. He was his mini me and later became “The Midge” short for midget. He is still referred as such today. In 1999 Alvin accepted the truth of the Adventist message and was baptized by Dr. William T. Cox, Sr. at the Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church in Columbus, Ohio. He served faithfully as a deacon of the church before moving back to his hometown of Detroit, Michigan. Later he connected with the St. Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where he joined the Male Chorus. While he did not always have the ability, Alvin had the desire to be a blessing to others. He managed to do what he could for others even when oftentimes it was not reciprocated. However his greatest ability was to show his girls that he loved and cared for them deeply on a regular basis. And he did just that!
