Mr. Algie Finney, Jr.

His Story: Algie Finney Jr. was born on February 9, 1931 in Bullock County Union Springs, Alabama to the late Algie Lee Finney and the late Cora Lee Finney. He was the oldest of 11 siblings. Algie attended Brown Grove School District in Union Springs, Alabama. He accepted Christ at a young age at Brown Grove Baptist Church in Union Springs, Alabama. Algie moved to Detroit in 1952 where he immediately found employment. Algie was united in holy matrimony to Annie Mae, the love of his life also from Union Spring, Alabama on December 11, 1954. They were married 39 years before her passing in 1994. To this union five children were born, three daughters and two sons. His wife, Annie Mae; sons, Leonard and Alphonso; father, Algie Lee Finney; mother, Cora Lee Finney; brother, Willie Finney and sister, Beatrice Finney Goree all preceded him in death. During his younger years, he was a part of the Masons, but after starting a family he slowly drifted away. Algie later joined Springfield Baptist Church in 1986 under the pastorate of the late Rev. Mitchell. He served faithfully on Usher Board No. 1 until his health begin to decline. Algie was employed at Ford Motor Company for over 43 years until his retirement in August 1994. Dad was our hero. He was with us from birth to adulthood. He was a great Dad. He was quiet and laid back, but when he raised his voice, you knew you were in trouble. His greatest joy was hunting and fishing, he was so excited especially when he arrived home to show off what he had caught. Dad was always content being at home relaxing in his recliner chair, watching television. We thank God for his wonderful blessings, because after Annette took ill, our baby sister Priscilla despite her own health challenges, became his own personal caregiver. Even though he had his own private nurse (John) and physical therapist (Nick) that would come twice a week, baby girl was there faithfully, taking care of Dad until the end. Special thanks to his doctors, Dr. Leonard Ellison Jr. and Francine Ellison, and thanks to Anthony Phillips and Jamiel Phillips who helped out in big ways assisting with Dad. On Sunday, October 28, 2018 in his home, he slept quietly away to his new heavenly home.
