Mr. Leon Rhodes

In Loving Memory Of Leon was born June 10, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan to Robert Lee Rhodes and Jewel Rhodes. Leon had two brothers, Robert Lee Rhodes Jr. (deceased), Eddy Lloyd Bell (deceased) and one sister, Phillis (Rhodes) Landrum. He lived in Detroit and attended and graduated from Higginbotham Elementary School and Mumford High School. He was recognized for Pole Vaulting while in high school. He went into the Army and was sent to Vietnam where he was wounded. Leon was a distinguished veteran. He received the ‘Bronze Star’ medal. He was honorably discharged as a Vietnam veteran. Leon was very proud to be a Veteran and was more than willing to tell everyone. Upon returning from Vietnam, Leon worked at General Motors for over 40 years. He enjoyed his job and retired in 2006. Leon had four children. Leon married Patricia Williams, and she preceded him in death in 1987. They had one son Damon Maurice who also preceded him in death in 1989. Leon was married to LaTanya Tippett in 1990, and they had two sons, Drake Rashard Rhodes (deceased), Ivan Christian Rhodes, and daughter Chardai Rhodes. After his marriage ended, he met and was engaged to Karen Dixon until her death in 2017. He also developed a very close relationship with Karen’s son, Andre Dixon. Leon was known for his very dapper style. Leon especially liked golf and enjoyed working part-time at the golf course assisting others with their golf game. He also loved going to the racetrack and playing pool in his spare time. Leon was always enthusiastic about cars and had a car collection that he enjoyed. Leon was happy when he was traveling and spending time with family and friends. Leon leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Ivan Christian Rhodes (Shelby, daughter-in-law), his daughter, Chardai Rhodes, his sister Phillis (Rhodes) Landrum, his niece, Lynette Landrum Holliday (Dwight deceased), nephew Kenton Lloyd Bell (Georgette), niece Kyla Sha Bell-Scott, great-nephews Andre Moore (Rebecca) and Khamari Bell, granddaughter Cherish Totton, grandson Charles Totton, great-great-niece Catalina Jewel Moore. Also cherishing his memory is Andre Dixon, and his second spouse, LaTanya Tippett Rhodes.
